These two paintings are of a common bird in my hometown called the Chickadee. Their name sounds exactly like the sound they make, “chicka-see-dee-dee”. These birds are a classic symbol of winter in my mind. They survive extremely low temperatures and are still so lively and joyful every morning when the sun comes up. They skitter and dance across the snow as it sparkles in the early morning dawn, leaving thousands of tiny footprints on the layer of frost on the snow’s surface. This image of a crisp and icy winter morning is one of the fond memories that always feels fresh and nostalgic at the same time.
