Death
This piece is a part of the series “The Space Between”, in which I am trying to use animal symbolism to convey basic concepts that are not seen with the naked eye. This piece represents death, which is often represented with ravens or crows in many cultures. It is something we all face and must face continually until we too are taken by it. For many people it is just a distant threat that doesn’t seem real or clear yet, it’s simply a concept far off on the horizon. However death tends to draw closer to each of us over time. For some it is already looming close by, ready to take the first opportunity to feast, waiting for your “battle” to be over, so to speak. Or it may have taken someone you love. And yet for others it is a very real, very close concept that is staring them straight in the face. It is not a comfortable concept, it is cold and it is mysterious and for most people it is quite terrifying. It is a reality, but not one that we are comfortable defining or dwelling on.
